Multi 1-3

NOTICE: I no longer recommend this or any other mega-dose supplement. For details, see the article Folly of Synthetic, Mega-Dose Supplements. It is best to get your nutrients from food, not supplements, as discussed in my God-given Foods Eating Plan book. But there might be some benefit to taking a basic multiple vitamin/ mineral supplement, so I now recommend a supplement like Twinlab's Food Based Ultra Daily.
However, if you are intent on taking a mega-dose supplement, then this supplement would be better than most. So I have left the following description as it was when I was still taking this product.
Jarrow Formula's Multi 1-3, is an excellent multiple vitamin/ mineral
supplement. It is available from WebVitamins. I
like this multi for several reasons.
First, Multi 1-3 is a tablet, but it is an "Easy-Solvtm Tablet." This assures adequate digestion in the gut.
Second, the name of this supplement is "1-3" as the directions say you can take one, two, or three tablets a day. But most will want to take three a day. And splitting up one's multi into three doses helps to improve absorption as the body can only absorb so much at once.
Third, this supplement is especially high in the antioxidant nutrients. The amounts all fall within the ranges I give in my Creationist Diet book for antioxidants if one wants to take them for their possible effect in reducing the risk of heart disease, cancer, and stroke.
Fourth, this supplement contains adequate amounts of calcium (500 mg) and magnesium (300 mg), so a separate calcium/ magnesium supplement is not needed as is often the case with other multi's.
Fifth, the forms of nutrients found in this supplement are highly absorbable forms, such as the vitamin C being in the form of calcium ascorbate rather than the more common but less well absorbed ascorbic acid.
Sixth, this multi does not contain iron. Generally speaking, adult men and post-menopausal women should not take supplemental iron.
